As a home-grown Mormon, I understand the ins and outs of the religion. Right up to the end, I went to church every Sunday, fully engaging in callings, activities, and temple worship-a feeling best described in my Open Letter. I believed and lived my life as a Mormon. My true self, a loving person, embraced the compassionate Jesus-loving side of the Church’s doctrine. However, after many experiences in which I reached out to God and He didn’t return the favor, I recognized that He doesn’t exist in my paradigm. I embraced a different form of religion, a religion of compassion, and have felt much happier since.
